IEEMA members account for —— % of electrical equipment manufacturing in India and electrical engineers from MEP consulting organizations are the one who select and recommend these equipment for various projects. During last three “MEP consultants Meets” organized by IEEMA at national level it was felt that more closer association with consultants will be mutually beneficial at various levels for resolving issues with other technical fraternities and at government level using IEEMA’s deep routed outreach and resources. As a result this division is now formed.
At present in India MEP consultants (apart from few large organizations) work in unorganized ambience. There is no “Statutory status” for this very important function in project design. Especially commercial value of ‘Electrical part” of the project being around 10% of the project cost, the design, execution etc is taken very lightly by project owners and good table designs get twisted at the hands of contractors and project owners to save on cost. This results in substandard and unsafe electrical infrastructure creating larger issues during O and M. Any person can call himself electrical design consultant and this has resulted into unhealthy competition.
India is marching towards the status of 3rd largest economy in the world and is interacting with world leaders for creating larger world standard Industrial, commercial, infrastructural and residential projects.
This is now calling for creating world class electrical infrastructures in India which will comply with Indian as well as international compliance requirements. This division will pursue government authorities to grant statutory status for electrical design engineers in the form of Professional Engineers .. which is standard practice followed throughout the world.
Electrical engineering is a core branch and is facing crunch of knowledgeable engineers in all areas for last two decades.. This division will focus on capacity building of electrical engineers to prepare them for producing world class designs. Efforts will also be taken to establish a direct live link between manufacturers and designers to keep them updated on latest products and technologies through webinars, factory visits etc. There are plans to upskill EPC contractors and their work force to deliver quality workmanship.
