Future Roadmap of India’s Energy Sector

India’s energy sector is transforming, propelled by rapid economic growth and rising energy demands. With industrialisation and population growth as key drivers, the sector faces a dual challenge: sustaining power sector growth while transitioning to cleaner alternatives. Coal, currently dominant in India’s energy mix, accounts for a significant share of emissions, underscoring the need for renewable energy to ensure sustainable development.
The government has set ambitious goals for the energy sector. By 2030, India targets a renewable energy capacity of 500 GW, reducing its carbon intensity by 45%, and meeting 50% of its energy needs from non-fossil sources. These measures align with its net-zero emission commitment for 2070, supported by solar and wind infrastructure expansion, energy efficiency initiatives, and carbon capture technologies.
However, challenges remain. Integrating renewable energy requires $500 billion investments to modernise grids, implement storage solutions, and ensure grid stability. Transitioning from coal to variable renewable energy sources like solar and wind demands robust infrastructure, advanced technologies, and policy support. Public-private collaboration is critical to overcoming these hurdles, leveraging private-sector innovations to bridge technological gaps.
ELECRAMA 2025 will play a pivotal role by serving as a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities in renewable technology, electrification, and green hydrogen. The event will connect policymakers, investors, and technology providers, driving advancements in industries cutting across power generation and distribution, equipment manufacturers, inputs like steel, cement, and heavy transportation etc. ELECRAMA will underscore India’s readiness to integrate cutting-edge technologies and bolster its journey toward a sustainable energy future.
With its ambitious energy policy updates and platforms like ELECRAMA, India is poised to be instrumental in the global transition to renewable energy. This commitment not only enhances power sector growth but also positions India as a key player in achieving global energy sector sustainability goals.
