On 7th June 2018, IEEMA organised an interactive meeting with Mr. Vijay Menghani, Chief Engineer, CEA, for understanding the key aspects of the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017 of Ministry of Power and to get viewpoints of the industry on the same and clear doubts. The meeting was attended by 55 + members, who shared their views and concerns on the Order. The Government of India, through Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, issued the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017. This Order encourages ‘Make in India’ and gives preference to domestic manufacturer suppliers for all Government procurements. Various nodal ministries of the Government of India, including Ministry of Power and Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises are in the process of notifying sector specific orders, prescribing higher or lower percentage of local content in respect of items under their purview, and the manner of calculation of local content. CEA is formulating the said Order for Ministry of Power. As decided in the meeting, CEA shall be arranging separate product-wise meetings with the related member manufacturers of IEEMA, to decide on the minimum local content and threshold value of procurement for specific products, as against the current 50% and INR 50 lakh figures respectively.
